Zajac Norgate House for Tenants with Special Needs

A Canadian venture capitalist with Fleming Financial Corporation for 18 years, Don Rutledge has also owned several restaurants and hotels in the Vancouver area, including the Granville Island Hotel and Marina. Outside his professional responsibilities, Don Rutledge acts in an advisory role for the Vancouver-based Zajac Foundation, whose proceeds benefit children in British Columbia.

Established in memory of Mel Jr. and Marty Zajac, the Zajac Foundation operates the Zajac Norgate House for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Since 1995, the non-profit development has offered a safe, comfortable environment in which seniors can age in place, enjoying innovative amenities and numerous safety features. The 36 rental units are also available to individuals with hearing, visual, and mobility impairments, and to those with degenerative conditions, such as multiple sclerosis. The home aims to increase independence and eliminate the need for institutionalization by providing units that meet the unique needs of each tenant. The Zajac Norgate House received the CMHC Flexhousing Award for the BC and Yukon region.
